Welcome to our PEGASUS 10-12 Project site! We are Moez and Shmyle Ghumman and we are two Muslim brothers who got to Lasalle Academy. This is a project we put together in order to help advance the Islamic Community that they are a part of in Rhode Island.

The Islamic community in RI is really small, and completing 8th grade from the first Islamic School of RI known as ISRI, we knew that we coould always use extra help. This is what inspired us to help the kids and provide them with resources that would help them achieve and have a better school life. Therefore, we started a soccer program at ISRI. We worked with the principal to hold practices on the school premises and provided the kids with an opportunity to learn and develop their skills in this great sport.

During eleventh grade, we also started to volunteer at the Islamic Center of RI (ICRI) Sunday School. ICRI is our local masque, or place of worship, where we always attend religious services. ICRI's Sunday School, however, was lacking in teachers and needed volunteers to help teach the three parochial or non-secular subjects of Arabic, religion, and Quran memorization. The Quran is the Holy Book for Muslims, which we both have entirely memorized. With this skill, we decided to give back to our community by becoming full time teachers at the Sunday School, teaching Quran to the kids there in 6th-8th grade.

This is a logo that we designed for the Islamic School of Rhode Island. When the Islamic School of Rhode Island was flooded in 2010, they requested public funding. I helped them raise funds by reaching out to the community with donation boxes and pledge forms. We had an idea to create a logo so that we could make a banner, pins, shirts, and other merchandise. We designed this logo and it was used during a fundraising walk and was used to produce t-shirts and badges. The school decided to use this as their official insignia and it is now on their website and the sign for the school building.
